The kick off meeting of the European project AMPERE (Automated photovoltaic cell and Module industrial Production to regain and secure European Renewable Energy market) took place at 3SUN headquarters in Catania, Sicily last 18th and 19th of May.

The project was awarded with a 14M€ grant, nine of which reserved for 3SUN, within the Horizon 2020 Call “Innovation Action for industrial development”. Through its Sicilian subsidiary, EGP acts as project coordinator for AMPERE, in a consortium that includes prestigious European research centres as well as Si PV industry players.

AMPERE aims at developing a fully automated bifacial PV modules pilot line based on Silicon Hetero-Junction cell technology. Thanks to this project, cells that are able to convert into electricity almost up to a quarter of the solar light will be industrialized applying innovative production processes. This technology will be then transferred to mass production and scaled up to a more mature industrial level, in order to produce reliable and powerful modules. The manufacturing will be digitalized thanks to the implementation of high level automation, including in-line controls to ensure high productivity at lower costs.
