Innovation is the spark that drives the energy sector. When Innovation is directly linked to the environmental sustainability an even more effective result emerges, just like in Open Innovability, an online crowdsourcing platform and digital open door for brilliant ideas aimed at improve the future of everyone. Ideas, in fact, are at the engine of the challenges launched on the website through the “calls”, collections of proposals from participants with different fields of expertise; this diversity boosts the scope for discussion and maximises the potential for scouting.
The “challenge continues” also on InnoCentive, another crowdsourcing platform which amplifies the sharing potential of the Enel Group digital hub dedicated to seek innovative and sustainable solutions.
The latest call for ideas launched simoultaneously on both platforms, Open Innovability and InnoCentive, are about e-mobility and renewable energies aimed at at satisfying specific needs and finding projects able to transform ideas in the future of Enel business.
Especially the e-mobility challenge launched in collaboration with Ferrovie dello Stato (the Italian State Railways), is aimed at partners interested in developing an app to help travellers with everything from simplifying ticket purchases to instructions on getting around once they arrive at their destination. An intelligent virtual travel assistant with cognitive and predictive capabilities, which can plan departures, help out when unforeseen circumstances arise, suggest ancillary services and guide the user to his/her destination, in a smart way, once they have left the station. A tool to revolutionize the whole concept of mobility and extend to situations, such as delays, strikes or cancellations, in which travellers normally have to rethink all their travel options on their own. A complete “pack” in other words that helps citizens in real time and provides solutions tailored to whatever is happening in the moment. Very definitely a major challenge but also one that will stimulate a change of perspective and perception in the search for that innovative spark that fires the flame of a successful idea for the future.
The renewable energy challenge is aimed at reducing the impact of offensive odors in the Muña reservoir and the pumping Station in Colombia. Enel Green Power is looking for innovators, - individuals, start-ups or companies – able to find the most effective solutions to reduce offensive odor emissions due to some gases (e.g. H2S). According to the Environmental Management Plan, a quarterly periodicity is established in the measurement of odors, in which the results must be presented in the respective environmental compliance reports on an annual basis. The people living on the banks of the Bogotá River in Colombia know well that the river has suffered for decades: it’s one of the most polluted waterways in Latin America and the waste that collects along the 380 km of its course turn into miasmas and gases that are often harmful to people. EGP’s constant commitment to sustainability and the well-being of local communities is driving us to search for effective solutions to help save the river and to return it to the population living on its banks.
While it is true that sustainable innovation is the spark that ignites the creative fire that forges brilliant ideas, sharing and interaction through crowdsourcing platforms are the wind that fans the flames of digital creativity.
Because change is only smart if we effect it together.
